Military Power Distribution Unit – PDU70

Military Power Distribution Unit – PDU70 is designed to distribute and manage electrical power within military electric and hybrid platforms. It receives high-voltage AC or DC power from primary sources and routes it safely to multiple subsystems with different electrical requirements. The unit ensures controlled energy flow, system protection, and operational safety under demanding military conditions.

Deployment Areas

PDU70 is suitable for medium and heavy-duty electric and hybrid military vehicles. Typical deployment environments include ground vehicles, naval platforms, support vehicles, mobile systems, and military installations where high-voltage power distribution and energy control are required. The unit is engineered to operate reliably in land, sea, and mobile environments exposed to vibration, temperature variation, and electromagnetic interference.

Configuration and Functional Structure

PDU70 features configurable multiple high-voltage power inputs and outputs, supporting voltages up to 1000 VDC. The system integrates isolated voltage measurement at both input and output stages, ensuring safe monitoring of high-voltage lines.

High-voltage safety is ensured through HVIL architecture, interlock-controlled battery relay outputs, fuse-protected outputs, and comprehensive electrical protection mechanisms against overvoltage, undervoltage, overcurrent, and over-temperature conditions.

The unit includes pre-charge circuits on all high-voltage outputs, passive and active DC bus energy sinking mechanisms, earth insulation monitoring, and low power mode capability to optimize system efficiency during inactive states.

Communication and Control Interfaces

Military Power Distribution Unit – PDU70 communicates with the vehicle Electrical Control Unit via SAE J-1939 CAN protocol at 250 kbit/s. Cyclic status messages are transmitted every 100 ms, while command messages are expected at the same interval. In the absence of commands for 400 ms, the system asserts an emergency output while maintaining operational state.

Additionally, RS422 communication is used for one-way transmission of diagnostic and status data to recording or monitoring devices, providing redundancy to CAN-based communication.

Test Standards

Military Power Distribution Unit – PDU70 is designed and validated in accordance with the following standards:

  • MIL-STD-1399

  • MIL-STD-704

  • MIL-STD-1275

  • MIL-STD-810

  • MIL-STD-461

  • MIL-STD-901

These standards verify electromagnetic compatibility, environmental durability, vehicle and aircraft power compliance, and shock resistance for military platforms.

Functional Role

PDU70 manages and distributes high-voltage electrical power across traction and auxiliary systems within electric and hybrid military vehicles. It ensures clean, stable, and protected power delivery to mission-critical subsystems while monitoring system integrity in real time.

Developed and manufactured by Nero Endustries, PDU70 integrates power control, protection, and communication into a single compact unit, supporting reliable vehicle operation in complex military electrical architectures.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

PDU70 is designed for medium and heavy-duty electric and hybrid military vehicles requiring high-voltage power distribution and energy control.

The unit supports high-voltage inputs and outputs with isolated voltage measurement up to 1000 VDC.

Safety is ensured through HVIL architecture, interlock-controlled battery relays, fuse-protected outputs, insulation monitoring, and multi-level electrical protection mechanisms.

PDU70 uses SAE J-1939 CAN protocol for control and monitoring, and RS422 for one-way diagnostic and status data transmission.

If CAN command messages are not received for 400 ms, the emergency output is asserted while the operational state remains unchanged to allow system-level control by the ECU.
