Auxiliary Power Unit – A12011

Auxiliary Power Unit – A12011
Auxiliary Power Unit – A12011 is an onboard auxiliary power system developed to maintain full operational capability of armored military vehicles when the main engine is switched off. Designed for compact integration and efficient power delivery, the A12011 enables continuous operation of electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems while supporting onboard climate control under demanding mission conditions. Nero Endustries develops auxiliary power solutions optimized for modern military vehicle architectures and operational efficiency.
Auxiliary Power Unit – A12011
Auxiliary Power Unit – A12011 is designed to supply power to vehicle subsystems without operating the main engine. It supports critical onboard systems during pre-mission activities such as weapon testing, system checks, and main engine cooling.
In emergency scenarios where the main engine is unavailable or damaged, the A12011 ensures continued operation of selected systems, preserving vehicle functionality and operational readiness.
Platform Compatibility and Integration
The A12011 is developed for integration into a broad range of military platforms, including tracked and wheeled armored vehicles, tactical and support vehicles, and stationary military systems. It is compatible with platforms such as main battle tanks, infantry fighting vehicles, armored personnel carriers, MRAP vehicles, and similar armored systems.
Depending on vehicle design requirements, the system can be installed embedded within the vehicle structure or mounted externally. Internal installations may utilize sound-insulated compartments to reduce acoustic impact, while external installations support effective heat dissipation.
Power Architecture and System Design
Auxiliary Power Unit – A12011 is engineered to address increasing onboard power demand caused by modern electronic systems. It supports silent mode operation with reduced acoustic and thermal signatures, minimizing reliance on the main engine.
The system is available in configurations ranging from 2 kW to 20 kW and supports 24/28 VDC output as well as high AC and DC voltage options. Depending on application requirements, the APU can be configured with air-cooled or liquid-cooled diesel engine architectures.
Operational Efficiency and Co-Generation Capability
The A12011 is fully integrated with the vehicle’s fuel and control systems and draws fuel directly from the vehicle fuel tank without requiring a dedicated battery or fuel reservoir.
A distinguishing capability of the system is its co-generation operating mode. When used alongside the vehicle’s main generator, the APU continuously monitors power demand and compensates for shortfalls, eliminating the need to upgrade existing generator systems when additional onboard equipment is introduced.
Control, Monitoring, and Smart Functions
Auxiliary Power Unit – A12011 is equipped with an IP67-rated electronic control unit featuring a digital display. The control system provides real-time monitoring of operating parameters including temperature status, fuel level, pressure values, DC current, battery voltage, and fault conditions.
Both automatic and manual start options are supported, enabling flexible system control under different mission profiles and operational scenarios.
Test Standards
Auxiliary Power Unit – A12011 is designed and tested in accordance with the following military standards:
-
MIL-STD-461 for electromagnetic compatibility
-
MIL-STD-810 for environmental durability
-
MIL-STD-704 for power management and electrical compatibility
-
MIL-HDBK-217 for reliability and life estimation
These standards confirm the system’s suitability for long-term operation in harsh military environments.
Functional Role
Auxiliary Power Unit – A12011 enables armored military vehicles to operate essential systems independently of the main engine. It supplies power to onboard electronics, hydraulic and pneumatic subsystems, climate control units, weapon systems, communication equipment, fire suppression systems, power distribution units, and KBRN systems.
By reducing engine runtime, lowering fuel consumption, and supporting silent operation, the A12011 enhances operational efficiency, vehicle survivability, and mission endurance across a wide range of military platforms.
