Auxiliary Power Unit – A20F

Auxiliary Power Unit – A20F
Auxiliary Power Unit – A20F is an onboard auxiliary power system developed to ensure continuous operation of armored military vehicle systems when the main engine is switched off or operating under limited conditions. Designed for high operational flexibility, the A20F enables electrical power supply, onboard climatization, and sustained system readiness under demanding mission environments. Nero Endustries designs auxiliary power solutions optimized for modern military vehicle operations and evolving battlefield requirements.
Auxiliary Power Unit – A20F
Auxiliary Power Unit – A20F is designed to provide electrical power to a vehicle’s electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems without relying on the main engine. It supports critical onboard systems during pre-mission preparation processes such as weapon testing, system diagnostics, and main engine cooling.
In emergency scenarios where the main engine is damaged or unavailable, the A20F enables selected systems to remain operational, preserving vehicle capability and mission continuity.
Platform Compatibility and Deployment
The A20F is developed for integration into a wide range of military platforms, including tracked and wheeled armored vehicles, tactical and support vehicles, and stationary military systems. Compatible platforms include main battle tanks, infantry fighting vehicles, armored personnel carriers, MRAP vehicles, and similar armored configurations.
The system can be installed internally within sound-insulated compartments or externally on the vehicle structure, depending on acoustic, thermal, and spatial requirements.
Power Architecture and Operational Flexibility
Auxiliary Power Unit – A20F addresses increasing onboard power demand driven by modern electronic and mission systems. It supports silent mode operation with reduced acoustic and thermal signatures while minimizing main engine operating time.
The system supports power configurations ranging from 2 kW to 20 kW and can be tailored to higher power capacities based on specific operational needs. It provides 24/28 VDC output as well as high AC and DC voltage options. Depending on the application, the APU may be configured with air-cooled or liquid-cooled diesel engine architectures.
Mobility and Co-Generation Capability
A key characteristic of the A20F is its ability to operate both when the vehicle is stationary and while in motion. This capability enables uninterrupted power supply during repositioning or convoy operations.
The A20F also supports co-generation mode, operating alongside the vehicle’s main generator. By continuously monitoring power demand, the system compensates for power shortages caused by newly integrated equipment, eliminating the need for main generator upgrades.
Control, Monitoring, and Smart Functions
Auxiliary Power Unit – A20F is equipped with an IP67-rated electronic control unit featuring a digital display. Operators can monitor real-time system parameters including temperature status, fuel level, pressure values, DC current, battery voltage, and fault conditions.
The control system supports both automatic and manual start options, allowing flexible operation based on mission profiles and vehicle status.
Test Standards
Auxiliary Power Unit – A20F is designed and tested in accordance with the following military standards:
-
MIL-STD-461 for electromagnetic compatibility
-
MIL-STD-810 for environmental durability
-
MIL-STD-704 for power management and electrical compatibility
-
MIL-HDBK-217 for reliability and life estimation
These standards verify the system’s suitability for sustained use in harsh military environments.
Functional Role
Auxiliary Power Unit – A20F enables armored military vehicles to operate mission-critical systems independently of the main engine. It supplies power to onboard electronics, hydraulic and pneumatic systems, climate control units, weapon systems, communication equipment, fire suppression systems, power distribution units, and KBRN systems.
By reducing engine runtime, supporting silent operation, and enabling power availability during movement, the A20F enhances operational endurance, vehicle survivability, and mission effectiveness across diverse military platforms.
